On This Day... 28 February 1935

On this day in 1935 nylon is invented at DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware.

Nylon, the world’s first commercially used manmade fibre, was invented as a substitute for silk by DuPont chemist Wallace Carothers. It is a polyamide thermoplastic and since its invention has been used in a huge number of applications from consumer goods to military applications.
